PIG FUN in Ms. Johnsons Classroom

Ms. Johnson

This week in Miss Johnson's elementary ag class, the students learned all about how farmers use ear notching to tell their pigs apart. Miss Johnson explained how the notches on each ear represent specific information: the right ear shows the litter number, while the left ear indicates the individual pig’s number within that litter. By using this system, farmers can easily keep track of all their animals.

Each grade gets to spend about 30 minutes in her classroom every day, doing fun, hands-on activities. Along with ear notching, the students learned some cool facts about pigs, like how smart and social they are, and why they’re so important in agriculture.
